Paul Horgan collection, 1923-1994, bulk 1931-1942.

Contains the various draft stages of Horgan's first novel, Fault of angels, including a preliminary sketch book and congratulatory telegrams subsequent to publication. The novel utilizes places and individuals from his years at the Eastman School under different names. The material is valuable for the study of Horgan's writing process and for the history of society in Rochester, N.Y.

Horgan (1903-1995) was born in Buffalo, N.Y. and spent his youth in New Mexico. He attended the Eastman School of Music, 1923-26, where he studied voice and participated in operatic productions. After leaving the Eastman School he turned to a career in writing, publishing many fiction and non-fiction works, for which he won two Pulitzer prizes and a Bancroft Prize.
